Dent Ignores Struggling Families, Resorts to Name-Calling
ALLENTOWN – After three years of fully supporting the George Bush energy policy, Congressman Charles Dent has stooped to having recorded phone calls attacking Sam Bennett delivered to voters at dinner time.
Fifteenth district Democratic nominee Sam Bennett, a former small business owner and community leader, is disappointed that a race for Congress has degenerated to juvenile name calling.
“How telling that while Lehigh Valley families are struggling to pay for gas and make ends meet, Charlie Dent’s answer is to have computers phone our families to call me names. That’s just more of the same old political tricks,” Bennett said.
Dent is using the robo-calls, which use computers to automatically phone homes and deliver a recorded message, as a tired, sleazy political tactic. Congress exempted its members from adhering to citizens’ requests to be placed on the wildly popular “Do Not Call List.”
Dent began attacking Bennett after she demanded oil companies begin drilling on the tens of millions of acres of leases currently held before opening up new lands and waters to Big Oil companies that are making record profits. Bennett believes that drilling alone will not solve our energy crisis. She has called for additional drilling on the 68 million acres of already leased lands in conjunction with renewable energy, efficiencies, conservation, and continued research and technology to build for a more sound energy future.
Dent, who has taken $21,827 from Big Oil and $88,363 from energy executives, is in a battle to return to Congress for a third term following a career in Washington that features his voting with President Bush 100 percent on the war in Iraq and voting to give Big Oil companies billions of dollars of tax breaks despite the record cost of fuel.
“I think Dent needs to apologize to everyone who has had these sleazy calls delivered to their answering machines, or even worse, their children. It’s under the Bush-Dent watch that gas prices have skyrocketed, so while he’s at it, he should apologize for that, too,” Bennett said.
