In my workplace no other issue, not the Iraq War, not Treasongate, not the exploding national debt, has caused such interest and anger as the Bush administration's proposal to eliminate overtime pay for millions of working Americans.
This issue has legs. It is morally outrageous, undefensible, and excluding this administration, unbelievable. This is a huge issue, that affects nearly every working class American. Let's get this message front and center.

Once again this "nothing between his ears" bozo panders to his extremist friends. I didn't watch him dribble in front of the nation for fear of getting sick, but I did see news replay where he looks like a deer caught in a car's headlights. And thank god for the intelligent people that do exist in this country. According to CNN, his speech didn't do anything to sooth fears of further job losses. His poll numbers are going down. They just can't seem to move down fast enough. Lets hope independent voters have had enough of this fool and vote for a democrat in november.

More info on this outrage at the link below or read an edited post from the DNC as follows:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A58250-2004Jan28.html

FROM THE DNC

Veterans feel the sting of Bush's overtime pay cut -- are you next?

President Bush is taking overtime pay away from millions of Americans who rely on it to make ends meet, and veterans will be among the first victims of the new rules.

The new regulations will allow employers to define some military training as equivalent to a four-year degree and declare their veteran employees ineligible for overtime pay.

That's President Bush's program for those who join the military: drop into a war zone, risk your life for your country, then come home to find you aren't eligible for overtime pay.

Bush's overtime outrage is a devastating attack on families, too.

The reductions in pay and longer hours that will inevitably come with losing overtime will be a strain on the families already struggling with the rising health care costs, lower job security, and other effects of Bush's failed economic policies.
Quote of the Week
"When I signed up in 1973, the Air Force and I made a deal that I thought was fair. They got a chunk of my time and I got training to help me build the rest of my life. There was no part of that deal that said I would have to give up my overtime pay."

Vietnam-era veteran Randy Fleming [AFL-CIO release, 1/29/04]

The assault on our veterans contained in this measure is absolutely sickening. It shows that the Republicans really only care about the military contractors and not our soldiers. What can you expect from a deserter in the White House!!!
