Thinking About The Children

We need to start thinking about the children and their children when we look at political issues today. The American nation is making a series of dramatically important political decisions that will impact our children and future generations. We need to put the real world needs over private greed and partisan politics. We need to put the needs of the children first. They are the future American nation!

Our current Republican dominated government is piling huge debts and financial burdens on the backs of our children and future generations. The Bush Republican tax cuts going to their wealthy financial backers needs to go back into the federal treasury. Our children do not need to be stuck with the costs of Republican political pay-offs.

Our children and future generations do not need to be paying for the costs in blood or tax money for the failures of the Bush Republican approach in Iraq and Afghanistan. What price will the American nation pay in blood for the diverting of resources from the hunt for Bin Laden to a needless war in Iraq? How many new terrorists are being trained in their evil arts in the Iraqi conflict, today? Are we going to be seeing American youths dying in the Middle East for generations to come? Will our children be paying interest on the massive war and rebuilding debt?

Our children are growing up in a world where American citizens have lost many of the civil liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights to the US Constitution. The falsely named Patriot Act lays the legal groundwork for a police state in America. You can be jailed without access to a lawyer. The government does not have to inform your family or the media. You may never be permitted to see a judge. You can be jailed for as long as the government desires. In some cases, should you leave the United States, the government claims the right to kill you. Is this the kind of legal system that we want to leave to our children? Our parents handed us a free country ruled by a system of laws and not by the whim of government officeholders.

We need to do better for the children.
